would confer British nationality on the child,
would not entitle him to British protection and
jurisdiction in China it is probable that se
time goes on few anglo-Chinese will take the
trouble to endeavour to register such births.
7. You will appreciate that the amendment
to the order in Council referred to in
paragraph 4 of this despatch must be applicable,
when made, to the whale of China, and therefore
the arrangements to be made for the leɛue of
denationalization certificates muet cover at any
rate all the places where the question is of
importance. It is to be hoped that the course
of the negotiations will be such that this
point will not present difficulty, and that it
will sooordingly be possible to arrange for
the amênd tent of the Order to come into force
simultaneously with the expiration of the six
monthe period during which donationalisation
oertificates have to be obtained.
In conclusion it must be realised that
the new scheme, if put into force, will take
effect only in China. Outside China
